Under normal circumstances, 5G RAN base stations connect multiple wireless internet terminals (such as CPEs or smartphones) simultaneously via downlink radio links and are connected to the core network via uplink wired links.
The MECGW is embedded transparently into the base station's uplink, creating a data transmission shortcut. It performs local breakout in the early stage of the uplink, allowing wireless internet terminals to directly access the computational resources of the edge data center or the enterprise's internal network. This reduces latency and ensures data security.
